I planted some russian vines last year and although they seem to be flourishing some of the lower leaves have rust coloured spots on them. Does anybody know what it can be? and how to treat it?

Are you sure you want to treat it.? I planted just one russian vine at the end of my garden to obscure the fence and it has taken me several years and lots of hard work to get rid of it. The common name for russian vine is Mile a Minute and it lives up to its name. They spread everywhere putting down suckers as they go so you can't dig them up. I wouldn't worry about the rust spots - they certainly won't kill it!

Dear Comp.addict, thanks for your reply re russian vines. I didn't realise they were such swines! I wanted something quick growing to hide an ugly view and not being much of a gardener I didn't have a clue they were so tenacious. They sound as bad as garden mint which has also taken over quite a large part of the flower bed. Any way, thanks again, I'll keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't take over, luckily its in place where it doesn't matter too much and there's plenty of room. Cheers,Maz.
