azalea from seed

I grew an azalea fom the seed of my beautiful FROME and it has grown very well, it is now 4 years old and I thought it was going to flower this year, but the buds just withered and fell off, it is in ericaceous compost and in a similar position to the mother plant, does anyone know why this happened.
