bird nest in loft

Hi.

Hope someone can give me some guidance on my problem bird nest in my loft. I have read other postings on the site that say that if you have a nest that you can't get too it is best to leave it until the chicks flee and then block it.

I have been in the loft and cannot see it let alone get to it as it appears to be right in the corner of the house on the inside behind the soffit board.

From the outside I can see were they are getting in which is due to a loose tile and where some cement has fallen out. Ideally I would like to fill it as it is above my ten year old sons bedroom and they keep waking him up between 4.00am - 5.00am.

If I block it the chicks will obviously die and my concern is disease and smell, not sure if that is an issue?

I am not heartless and I know bird nests are protected but we are talking about a few sparrows here not giant pandas. I will gladly block it of but as said earlier but a little concerned about smell and disease, please help me if you can.

What you previously read is the correct advice.You won't have long to wait,and you'll be doing yourself and your son a favour in the long run,as you then won't have to worry about any odours etc.Also,the birds will be gone,and your concience will be clear-any decent person would do the same!!

I had same problem Derek but mine flew off at the weekend.

you won't get any disease or smell Derek unless you block it before the chicks have flown,give them plenty of time to clear the nest PLEASE,then block it off

Thank you very much for your input. I have spoken to my lad and as I said earlier am not heartless so if push comes to shove I will send him to bed with ear defenders (only joking) rather than block the hole. We shall wait until they go, once again thanks.
