Can't say whether or not they always do but yes they can disappear by themselves. I remember an old wallpaper of mine that kept on bubbling for several days, and the bubbles weren't small...! But in the end the wallpaper was as flat as if they'd never been there - so give it some time and don't despair:)
my dad used to prick with pins & gently flatten bubbles with a T cloth.
As long as the wall is porous any airbubbles will usually get sucked into the plaster, but if it`s not a small incision will be the answer.
