Growing potatoes in a bin
11 Answers
Has any one ever grown potatoes in a tall container, (like an oil drum) I know that you have to keep covering the leaves with additional soil, when they come to the surface. But how does one harvest the potatoes when you have a container full of soil

I did this some years ago, but I used a black rubble bag, with a few inches of compost in the bottom, and as the plants grew i added more, till the bag was full,
If you want to harvest early, simply slice accross the bottom of the bag and take out the spuds as required.
The reason I stopped using this method was the problem of keeping it watered when you go away, for any length of time.
