how can i get a blood stain out of a carpet it has dried in

good luck getting dried blood stains out! spitting on it and rubbing the stain with a cloth might help, the enzymes in spit will help to break up the blood.

zzxxee - I've heard milk is good for blood stains, but never tried it.

I frequently have to get copious amounts of dried animal blood out of my carpets (no, not ritual sacrifices, just a murderous cat) and I use Vanish foam which works pretty well.

I would say cold water (with washing powder/fairy up liquid/vanish or whatever), as hot water tends to fix blood stains.

Once you've treated area, put layer of kitchen roll and then something heavy on top of it to draw moisture and stain out of carpet. Make sure you have enough kitchen paper to soak up the stain and ensure that the book or other heavy item you use will not be damaged by the water from the carpet.
