Can you use a cast iron griddle (old one been past down in family) on a ceramic hob or I was thinking maybe put it on a wok stand to stop scratching, has anyone else used it straight ontop of hob or can anyone suggest another way I could use it thanks

could damage the ceramics
I'll agree with tamb, because - sorry Lolliemma, I thought you said "cast iron girdle"........
As long as you don't scrape it around on the stove-top, it should be no different then using any frying-pan. I'm assuming you're talking about a frying-pan.
