What is a Alstra Maria

I am trying to identify a plant can anyone help.?
My friend has a rose like shrub with beautiful red blooms which they bought in this country but they have them in Calfornia in profusion. However the one bought here survived our last winter without any trouble. It has been blooming for several months and they told me it is a ALSTRA MARIA but I can't find it listed anywhere. It has dark leaves, no thorns and is about 700cm in height and width . The blooms are like roses but the petals are less dense. Oh one other thing the variety in the US also has many seeds in the Autumn.

I think you might mean alstroemeria....a great US favourite and native. Many good garden centres and most nurseries will stock this great plant....mine is just coming into flower now.

I live in Bournemouth UK and mine have nearly finished. Each year I leave them in the ground and they are spreading.

You do have a mildish climate in Bournmouth but I'm only 100 miles north of you so I should be alright. Thanks !

I live in Central London and have two which are still flowering a dark red and a pink... As carlton 23 said they spread and get bigger each year...You can also divide them
