Fitting Hardboard in Loft

I want to attach some sheets of 1/8" thick hardboard to the rafters on the underside of the roof. What is the best tool for this? Hammer and nails seems a bit tedious. Would a staple gun be OK and are their different types? Also are nail guns with a short nail possible to use? What would be your preference?

heavy duty staples or short pins ................ maybe rent an electric stapler or nailer ............... :o)

If your material is similar to a product we call 'Masonite" here in the U.S., it's compact and hard enough that I don't think a standard stapler, even a construction stapler, that I'm sure The builder is suggesting, will penetrate it evenly. Now, the nailer, that's a different story, Except that you would a need a compressed air supply to operate the brad nailer....
If your materail is different from what I visualize a stapler will probably do the job...

Hi, I have put hardboard on the backs of cupboards using my trusty stapler and that has worked fine, but as bulider says either buy or rent an electric one would be better as you will be doing quite a bit. If you use a hammer and nails you will have to be careful as it could cause damage to the roof itself.
