I want to replace the light fitting in my living room. I am replacing a metal one with another metal one. There are three wires coming out of the ceiling, blue, brown and green/yellow. The new fitting has these three coloured wires plus a seperate earth cable attached to the new rose. My problem is there is nowhere to attach the earth cable. The existing light fitting is screwed to the wooden joists. I can`t understand why the existing fitting hasn`t got this extra wire, it is metal after all. Can anyone help me out here?

can you use a connector to join the two earth wires

Is it acceptable to do this?
It will be ok as long as long as the metal rose is earthed.
