bathroom light fitting problem.

i want replace the light fitting in my bathroom. The on/off switch is a pull chord. The old fitting has 4 connections. 1 red, 1 black, 1 green/yellow and 1 with 2 reds. The new fitting has only 3 connections live, neutral and earth. Do i need a new fitting with 4 connections or can i fit this one. Advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Your description of the old fitting is somewhat strange inhaving 3 red wires and one black. I'd advise getting in someone who can sort out what the heck's going on with that wiring.

You may be able to put the extra 2 reds in a junction box in the loft and use your new fitting. They sound like a spare to something else, electric shaver point maybe? Are the 2 reds and 1 red wires seperate from each other?

Thanks johnk, sought professional advise and was told to connect the 2 reds to a connector and just connect the other 3 wires to the new fitting. Hope this might help anyone with similar problem.
