Snake repellents?

Hi all,

Does anybody know of any affordable ways to keep snakes away from the entrance to my house? I have recently found two snakes (apparently non-venomous) on my doorstep and I really don't want them there. Chasing them away with a broom works, but living in Florida, where poisonous snakes do exist, this won't always be an option!

Here in the UK, snakes at the door are very rarely a problem. But why not just enter ''snake repellent'' into Google and look through the loads of links to US suppliers, and some DIY options?

I had a sand lizard at my (UK) door last month, wanting to come in. But I don't suppose that counts.

The only things we get in our garden are worms, hundreds of them.

I get people from energy supply companies at my door, how do I keep them away??

There hasn't been a snake seen here since St Patrick banished them some time ago.
