can i use a spray gun to paint my chairs?

i want to paint my beechwood veneer ikea chairs in black acrylic (I think!)
To get an even finish and no 'orrible drips, would it be best to use a spray gun?
Also, would i have to rub them down, or would acrylic paint go on ok?

It'll be far too messy to spray black paint, where are you going to do it? Remember what doesn't go on the chair will go somewhere, mainly on the floor, in the air, and everywhere. Before any paint job the surface should be rubbed down because the paint needs something to adhere to. Always use a good quality paint not some cheapo stuff.
