Is it yourown property , or a rented one?

Some local authorities operate a Care and Repair scheme , to help in situations like this .

ring your local council to see if this is done in your area. It may be called something else where you live, but basically it is to help the elderly stay in their home.

My Uncle had his roof replaced under this scheme , in Lancashire, because it was raining in badly. The scheme is means tested , so you will have to show your financial details to a finance officer from the council.

Your contribution will be based on the money you possess .In my Uncles case this was a minimal amount because his savings were small. He owned his Property. best of luck . Brenda.
westham fan (me too) Go to your local Citizens Advice, explain to them your circumstances and they will let you know if you're entitled to a grant to help replace your windows, it doesn't matter if you own the property or not, It sounds to me (you being on Pension Credit) that you will get help. The CAB will help you with the forms too. Good Luck.
Aunty Jem.
Try EAGA, if no grants are available a cheap bodge is to spray expendable foam into the gaps and put clingfilm over the panes and frames on the inside of course.
It matters more than a little whether you own the property, you cannot begin to put new windows in someone else's property without their agreemebnt even if you are eligible for a grant to help.

thankyou everyone for your replies. WHF
Brenda I didn't mean she could do it to anyones property I meant if she was in council property, but having said that I'm sure it would be considered if she's an OAP and had the permission of the owner. Something else to to go into. Never say never.

I work for a charity who help individuals like yourself to improve the quality of their homes. It is all to common where people find themselves unable to maintain their property, when other thing need to come first, such as food and bills. It's a postcode lottery I'm afraid ...Many councils have funding for home improvements... many don't.
But if you dont ask you wont get... even if you own your property...as suggested previously.Try the Citizens Advice first, and ask if there is a home improvement ageny in your area who will help. They are usually part funded by the council, and can arrange to get the funds together to replace your windows, if you qualify ....you will have to allow them to see your financial details....( from what I see, the less money you have, the more you get. )
People dont realise but there are loads of charities out there with cash to give away...and unless you approach them you wont get help, and if you find this daunting, which most do. Get some one else to do it for you...we do it every day of the week.
There are benevolent funds available for almost every walk of life...so make an appointment at the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Good luck.
if it is your own propert why not look at an equity release scheme which would allow you to raise money against your property to enbale you to carry out repairs, and would be repaid upon your death and taken out of the estate.
