My central heating works fine and I am getting hot water. The thermostat is ok as is the timer, bolier and pump. Why does it sound like my heating is on all the time even when everything is switched off. (I have found turning the mains stop valve does stp the noise, but then I have no water!

It sounds like you have an air lock in the pipes - drain the system then refill
