spinning problem with washing machine
3 Answers
my zanussi washing machine washes all right but when it comes to the spinning it makes a terrible noise like metal and stone banging together,it also leaves small oil spots on clothes that look like the holes in the drum.Is it time for a new machine or is it repairable.Any advice appreciated. Thanks

It sounds to me like the bearings have gone, could be expensive to fix.

it's definitely the bearings gone. it will be expensive to fix (well in excess off £100) but if you are intending to fix it stop using it, every time you use it you increase the chances that it will damage the bearing outer cases beyond repair so the whole outer drum would require replacing too (then it will simply be uneconomical to repair)
easy check to see if it's the bearings, open the door, grab hold of the metal inner drum and try moving it from side to side, you will be able to feel the inner drum is loose and it will move about independent of the outer drum.

It's about the biggest job you could do on a washing machine. A few years ago I had a Zannusi with the same problem, but beacause it had the free 5 Year warranty, I called them out to fix it.
As Chuck say's open the door and lift the front edge of the drum. If it's got any play on it, the rear bearing has gone.
Oh yes my 5 year warranty...One call out to identify the problen...then another to replace the bearing...I had to pay £150 for labour....I should have read the small print.
I would have done it myself if I'd known.
