Ferns

Ive recently been given two ferns similar to this

Ive had them Indoors and well watered but some of the leaves aregoing brown, am I doing something wrong as a friends told me that they're outdoor plants. Shoul I put them outside, even n this cold?

Please help.

Let me also add that at that they're one foot high In their original plastic pots which they look like they're getting too big for the moment. I have the ferns In the kitchen On top of the drier which gets quite hot, maybe this Is a factor?

Could be the central heating... move them to a cooler area...
