Front Bedrooms

Most of the houses in my street are similiar .Front bedroom and back bedrooms are same size..Most couples use the front bedroom and kids at the back.I have noticed this quite a lot. Is there any reason for this or has it just been the done thing.? How many of you I mean parents use your back bedroom. It is not because of traffic in my street.or noise.

I always assumed it was because the parents have the larger room, which is usually the front one over the living room. We've just swapped over since we moved because 2 rooms were converted to one so the larger one is at the back.

In my last house our bedrooms were enormous and so the back bedroom was already converted into 2 smaller bedrooma and we kept the front large bedroom.

In the house before the last one, we slept in the smaller back bedroom because it had a nice view. When we had kids, they slept in the front one but we moved when they were small. Next house had room with en-suit at front, so that was ours, kids had two back rooms. Now we sleep in one of the front bedrooms and the kids share the other, the master bedroom with en-suit is at the back, but we keep that as a guest room and the kids use the other as a lego store!

I guess we just sleep where we feel more comfortable - the back bedrooms get too warm in the summer.

The back bedrooms were usually quieter, with the front bedroom over the living room where parents may be listening to the tv or radio, or chatting, and street noise at the front of the house.

Thank you for you interesting replies. In the smaller houses many many years ago I guess it was the done thing for parents to have the front bedroom. Its been like this as far as I can remember and I am retired.

I think parents sleeping in the front bedroom stems from years ago before alarm clocks. A man used to come around with a long pole and tap on the windows to wake people up for work.
