Comet goldfish
5 Answers
My daughter has x2 goldfish- one being a comet goldfish. One morning we thought it had died. Before I flushed it down the toilet, I happened to notice it mouth opened and shut. We put it into another bowl of water and after 24hours or so it picked up and we returned it to the tank. A week has passed and the fish became lathargic. Yesterday it was laid on it's side at the bottom of the tank with a bent back. I thought it was dead, but it is still breathing. We have it on it's own in a bowl. It cannot stay upright, it lays on its side hardly moving (still its back is bent). If you hold it in the correct position it tries to swim away from you. I'm sure it is dying but won't. Any advise greatly appreciated.

Goldfish are pretty hardy but will still need an occasional water change, more often if there is no filtration. When I say water change, I mean partial and water that is treated with conditioner first to remove chlorine/chloramine.
If there is filtration the filter will occasionally need a rinse out in tank water and a sponges replaced once a year or so.
Is your daughter aware of these requirements?
