Is there any paints that would make a decent looking job rather than ripping them off and putting new ones on?

Hi, the simple answer to this one would be no. There are tile paints around but in my opinion they never look that good. After a while they usually start to chip or flake and that makes them look terrible and you will have difficulty making them look really smooth. If you are only looking for a quick tidy up that you are not bothered about lasting long then ok.
Years ago I bought some sunshine yellow tile paint from Wilkinson's and it did a really good job and lasted for quite a few years before we had a new bathroom suite etc, fitted. Ours didn't chip or flake and really brightened the place up.
Just make sure the tiles are very clean and grease-free before you paint them.
