Replacing mechanism in old internal door

Our house was built in the early 50's so I'm guessing the doors are original from then. I need to replace the mechanism but it is deeper than any I can find. B&Q do one @76mm but even that is not quite enough.

I know I can mod the door to suit the mechanism and then fill the old holes but can anyone recommend another course of action?

Thanks.

You are at the wrong shop B&Q only do ..2 1/2''.. and ..3''.. mortice locks..
I sometimes replace old mortice locks..longer than 3'' and get them from a local hardware store....they have them in stock, but I dont think they will be listed online.

Have'nt you got an old style ironmongers near you...try them.
You can buy them online - e.g. http://www.tbks.co.uk...de&stockcode=AL013SCP

Search for "mortice latch" or "tubular latch"
I was thinking more along these lines...

All the older stuff is also handled by Relics of Witney. On web.
