are covered with teak wood look material, i though they were wood, but we were messing about and hubby poked the kitchen cupboard door with a pen, and the material was cut and now its hanging off and you can see the plain beige cupboard door underneath, what is this, and can i take it off and just paint the doors? its also coming off the other doors and looks a right mess, i just want to revamp the kitchen, on a low budget i.e painting, i havce chosen a olive paint, but what colour should i do the doors of the units, if i can do them

and if i wanted to paint/stain them, would that be ok too
I don't think that the laminate coat on the mdf will take stain but certainly paint. Make sure they are completely clean and grease free first and if they are shiny then gently rub over with very fine sandpaper then paint them.
