grouting tiles

is this easy to do? our bathroom tiles are looking tired, thinking of regrouting them but is it as simple as i think. scrape on the grout then when dry wipe the tiles. how do you get rid of all the spare gunk once you have filled the cracks in?

Professional tilers seem to use a flexible rubber scraper which leaves the grouting slightly lower than the tiles and also removes all the excess grout which I assume is put back in the tin for the next job.
When dry the tiles will just need a bit of a polish to remove any dusty residue on the surface.

When I grout tiles I use one of those 'rubber scrapers for making sure you get every bit of cake mix out of the bowl' things, don't know what they're called. I then usually run my finger along the grooves to smooth them. After about 15 minutes I wipe over the tiles with a damp sponge, then polish up with dry kitchen paper. Don't let any of the grout harden on the tiles because it's very hard to get off.

top tip.. from my builder husband!! DONT wipe the tiles with a wet cloth when you have finished - thinking you can wipe all the residue off.. use a dry cloth.. or else you will never get rid of the powder residue! (as mentioned also above by Wak)!!

Hi, when you say regrouting are you removing the old stuff first. If not and they were grouted properly the first time you may have a job getting more of the stuff on them. From the way you have worded it, it sounds as though you are planning on just putting more on top of the old grout which may not work.

yes was just going to go over old stuff, it doesnt sound as easy now as i thought!
