I am getting no warm air from my heater on a VW polo "V" reg. Water hoses to heater feel cold. Suspect possible air lock in system but dont know how to clear it.

Unlikely to be an air lock.  Is the engine coolant getting really hot?  Without seeing the car, I'd look at the thermostat first.  Worse case could be headgasket gone.

Need more info!!!

Well, it does sound like an airlock to me - assuming the cooling system isn't completely empty of water!  Loosen the highest hose connection you can find and run the engine.  When just water and no air comes out of the loosened joint you should have cleared the air lock.  You may have to top up the water during the exercise, and should certainly check it afterwards.  Basically it's the same technique as bleeding a domestic central heating radiator.

..... only time I've ever seen air lock is after coolant change.  You should never get an airlock unless you have a coolant leak or changed the coolant.

Have you either?

I had this problem this weekend with my Polo (although its a slightly older model H reg) But i removed the thermostat - dropped it into a cup of boiling water and it didn't open  - So i bought a new one, replaced it and after 5 minutes of the car being idle war air came out of the heater. I noticed the problem first off though not from the cool air coming from the windscreen vents, but from an unusually hight coolant temperature. Cost me 7 for a new thermostat and took an hour to put right. Hope this helps.
