Old stone farmhouse damp courses

Anyone have any ideas on damp proofing an old stone cottage. I have been on the internet and found several ideas but they are all contradicting. Anyone living in a cottage that has been renervated with a damp course that works. We do have a few good ideas (my husband s a builder) But i say its best to throw the idea around and see what bounces back :-)

I live in a stone cottage about 1680.

There is no damp proof course, it wasn't designed to have one and I wouldn't dream of having one put in.

Having said that I don't know if the construction is the same so caution there

Old buildings work in a different way and mine has lime pointing through which moisture is meant to evaporate.

You should talk to spab (Society for the protection of ancient buildings) - they are ex perts and have an advice line on this page
