gardner wants to lay turf on existing path made of paving slabs, but will put topsoil on the top of the slabs etc to level the garden out, is this correct?

Also how long does turf last when delivered and not layed, also saw today that they havent rotavated properly, but would this be ok covered up with topsoil, they say it will?

no, the slabs would have to be removed and the ground levelled.

real cowboy you got yourself there...
Slabs need to be removed and ground probably rotivated then topsoil added, levelled then turf can then be layed.

i know cazz and its causing enough arguments with hubby at the moment, thanks, hubby says hes gonna tell em to remove paving
hi , dont let them do this . to lay turf the ground is rotavated lightly first then rollered then top soil is layed . it is then rollered again to make it completely leval , the turf is then layed . you then step gently along it ,pressing the joins together.no matter what the weather it MUST be watered every day .... unless you have torrential rain .you continue doing this for roughly 3 weeks. If layed on slabs \ pathway the grass will grow weak and patchy and you will always see the outline of the path. sack your gardener he doesnt know what he,s doing ...good luck.
Suzie it was like this in my garden when I came to this house, the path area was proud of the rest of the lawn. Going on from your earlier post - this is a cheapskate lazy way of doing it. If you roll the turf and don't let it dry out it should be OK for a few days but not much longer.
and don't forget when laying turf to cut out shapes to interlock the pieces of turf together, don't just lay them down next to each other. Bit like a jigsaw puzzle..
Tell em to p!ss of and not return, they`re bloody cowboys who are only in it for your cash.
If you go to your previous post in the 'gardening' section good info already there.
