I have found a bag full of vintage fur stoles and flattened dead foxes...they were obviously my nans and given to me in a bag of her stuff by my dad...i hadnt really looked in until now.
my nan was born in 1898...so they are probably pretty old...she died at 84 and didnt leave the house or walk for the last 40 or so...so obviously bought them when she was about 20-40-odd...1920s to 1940s
so my dilemma...i am a vegetarian and very much against fur...and i obviously dont want them...my first thought was to bin the disgusting things..then i remembered a shop over the road that sells vintage furs...and i thought...if i were to 'save' these ones and sell them to this shop...would i be in kind of preventing more animals being slaughtered?
i figure the more old ones available the less need for new ones...these are in very good nick, but not ''cool or trendy'' looking and essentially fur shawls or flattened dead foxes or whatver - which of course are not popular nowadays...
what do you think i should do? are they worth any money anyway?
thanks
(my other thought was to save them, as a i work as costume designer for films and imagine them not to be cheap...never needed to know before)

Since you live close to somewhere that deals in furs the best thing would be to take them there and get something for them if they are saleable. No, this does not stop any animals being killed in the future for their fur, but neither does throwing them away. These animals have already died and as their pelts have been treated amd fashioned to adorn human beings, in my opinion, that is where they should end up. If you throw them away it wont do any good to anyone, neither the environment or your pocket.
Makes me cringe to think women would wear them around their necks in those days.
My godmother had one with it's head on that she wore like a scarf. If they are in good condition they may be worth something, so go to the shop with them, you may as well get something for them, even though they are not in demand by women nowadays.
