I need to re roof a house, it's about a 100 years old, its currently old clay tiles. aMy question is as the house is in a coastal areas and exposed to alot of elements is there more modern alternatives to individual tiles which can blow off something thats all in one like zinc or lead something, whats the comparitive cost compared to slate tile and do local concils have a problem with this on old houses saying it not 'inkeeping'

Thanks inadvance

So there are no local restrictions?
It's not listed, or in conservation area, is it?
What is the structure (and what materials is original house built in)
If restricted as mentioned above then I doubt you would get permission (at first glance over)
Ask the question first with your Local Authority.
Technical difficulties with zinc and lead ........ which I won't bore you with.
Google "Cambrian slates" ........ or "Eternit slates" as a couple of ideas ....... nothing would shift them once they're fixed. :o)
