Blocked Pipes to Septic Tank Work
In February 2008 we had worked carried out which we claimed under our Insurance Policy, the Contractors were recommended by the Ins. Co. A section of our garden was dug up and new piping was laid to the septic tank as tree roots had infiltrated the old piping causing a blockage. We were told by the suveyer that solid piping would be used - but the Contractor arrived with perforated piping and when we queried this we were told that it would be treble lagged and it was the correct piping, so we let the work go ahead. He added that it would last for years. Now two years later tree roots, fibres and silt have caused a blockage, which was noticed and showed to us by our neighbour with whom we share the septic tank. We immediately got in touch with both the Contractors and the Insurance Company. The Ins. Co. advised us to contact the Contractors and stated they could not use any influence, and the Manager of the Contracters has refused to take our calls - is always unavailable or out of the office, and has not replied to a letter or email. The person who initially answered the phone said the work was only guaranteed for a year and they would get back to us which they have not done. Would appreciate any advice if we have any comeback on having the work done again as the wrong materials were used or do we just have to accept that the Contractors do not have any further responsibility to the work they carried out. Many thanks to anyone who replies. This is a worrying situation for us as we are two sisters sharing a property and we are senior citizens.

Was recentl lid off and could be the same firm as we dealt with quite large insurance companies. I'm very surprised new pipework was put in. what was the original material? Most insurance companies have a one year guarantee but the company I was with still went back to rectify after a year if the job wasnt up to scratch. Can the insurance company not call the contractors for you? You should put in a complaint through them.
