cost of lopping trees

I've had an estimate today for taking down to a more manageable height a very large conifer that has grown too big for us to reach and digging out and removing a dead conifer growing next to the large one, we 've been quoted �160 does that sound reasonable we live in NW London

we chopped our overgrown connifers ourselves if you get a ladder and start removing the small branches as far as you can reach,,then tie a rope round the main trunk so you can saw it and guide it to fall into your garden,,its only an idea but it would save you money..also you can buy something to kill an old tree root at garden centres...you can chop your tree trunk into logs and make a nice woodland border then its not gone to waste..i think its �30 a tree where i live to get someone to do it for you,,so perhaps you should still phone around for more quotes..

Last year, we were quoted �180 to trim down two of our very tall conifers. It was a good price & seeing that the 'lumberjack's' were recommended, we will be having this done in the spring.

Personally, I wouldn't attempt to do this yourself, especially if using a chain-saw, as this can be very dangerous & even fatal. Best to leave it to the experts!

Totally agree with smudge. Tree work often sounds expensive but when you consider days/weeks/months (or worse!) of being out of action if you have an accident it's not a lot of money at all.

Living in a low-cost housing area I was quoted half that price a year ago for similar work, so it doesn`t seem too unreasonable for a London address.  The professionals are quick and do a good job at no physical risk to yourself so I don`t think I`d quibble too much. A � or 2 either way isn`t worth arguing about and you`ll be glad to get a problem out of the way.
