sorry to post this here, but this is usually where the action is at this time of the day. i think my kettle is broken as when i switch it on, the light comes on but the water doesn't boil. is it the fuse or is it just knackered (like me!). any advice would be appreciated as i have no knowledge or understanding of all things electrical...x

The light would come on if the fuse had gone - think its buggered personally.
unless it has a magic light that's coming on it's not going to be the fuse.
If it was fused nothing would happen
Wouldn't ^
Probably the element's gone.......if it was the fuse the light wouldn't be coming on

New kettle needed I'm afraid
Probably the thermostat gone
It's elementary.............
You can pick up a kettle dirt cheap now. As long as you don't mind waiting..!
last year I got through 6 kettles, they dont make them like they used to....I'd buy a new one

Argos have some good deals on electric Kettles at the moment.
Sainsbury's have one for less than a fiver. I have had two go in a couple of weeks, now I just stick a cup of water in the microwave for a few minutes.
A microwave is a rotten way to heat water. Microwaves are most effective on things with some fat content.
Microwaves excite water and fat molecules so they are pretty good at heating water (in fact too good for it to be a safe way to boil water, it's far too easy to superheat the water so it will boil in an explosive manner when you put anything in it to act as a nucleation site)
