My neighbour has not had a water bill for a few years (we are all on metered supplies). He did get them at one time, but then they just stopped, for no apparent reason. I suggested that he should contact the water board to tell them, so that he doesn't get a huge bill. He reckons however that they are not allowed to charge for more than a year back, so the longer he gets away with it the more it benefits him. I have heard this about gas and electricity bills but not about water. Can anyone confirm this, or contribute any words of wisdom on the matter? Thanks in advance for any advice.
As far as i am aware the 12 month rule only applies to electricity and gas supplies.
As regards the water company they could reclaim charges for up to 6 years as it would be treated like a civil debt and they could seek to recover the money through the courts
As pauln90 suggests, he is in line for one hell of a bill eventually from his Waterboard and if I was him I would contact them about the matter otherwise they could take him to court about it !
When I went to work in London I found that a company had not been charged for any telephone calls for 3 years on a 60 line PBX........they weren't happy when I sent the bill.
