This liquid is absolute magic for countless similar tasks so long as you are careful not to use it on plasics such as PVC (which you can however weld using this because it dissolves the PVC). The bad news is that it is probably very difficult to get hold of and in fact my can of the past 18 years is now empty and I would like to get more but have not found it yet. You could try paint stripper (Nitromors or Wickes own) which is similarly endowed - I think it may have meth/chlor in it. Watch out for some discolouration which is likely to disappear after a couple of washes.
Tippex dilution 'stuff' was called thinners. Not sure if it or Tippex are still around. Maybe you could try Lavender essential oil. It works on all sticky residue from labels, etc. Works on glass without leaving any unwanted marks. Smells lovely too, of course! As with any solution, try it first on an unseen part like the inside of the hem. Good luck.
