The leaves on my rhododendron have turned black. Does anyone know the cause and/or the cure. The rhododendron is in a tub

They need acidic soil - is it in ericaceous compost?
Unless you rhodedendron is lime tolerant then watering with hard tap water will kill it as soon as the soils capacity to neatralise it is used up. Also if the soil is in a concrete pot or in close contact with concrete or cement you will have the same eventual outcome.
