Its dustbin day today, as usual last night I transfered all our rubbish in black bags to the wheellie bin in the front, no problem witth back bin, this morning I went to add more rubbish out front and to my horrow when I opened the wheelie bin there were maggots everywhere[ also in next door's bin too]. I sprayed with Jeyes Fluid spray and they looked like they were dying but half an hour later they are still alive. I know I have to wait till the bin is emptied but what can I do to make them go away, is there anything that kills them instantly, its really horrible.

Boiling water.
Tip them out and give the bin a good hose down. I chucked some chicken in wheelie bin once that had fly eggs on it, when I opened the bin next day I was amazed at how quickly about 200 maggots had hatched

many thanx

tip them out on a patch of bare ground the birds love them
Flamethrower your wheely bin. Problem solved
flamethrower? ... napalm if you can get your hands on some
If you wrap food waste in newspaper before putting in the bin you don't get maggots.
make sure you wrap up the black bags well so there are no gaps, throw any food waste into a compost bin or empty into plastic bag before you bin it. obviously flies are getting at any waste food, make sure that wherever you store your rubbish is not accessible to animals who may rip them open to get at food which attracts flies

How ever well you wrap food for the bin, the flies WILL find a way in. I spray a good wallop of fly spray every time I put a bag of rubbish in, then shut the lid quick! It has worked so far. Once the bin is emptied, i give it a wash out with dettol, or jeyes fluid. At least it smells clean then. Its the ruddy councils fault, only emptying bins once a fortnight. My friends in Spain get theirs emptied every day.
They're great bait if you go fishing.

thanx for all the tips, they really are disgusting and I am being much more careful now and all rubbish goes in supermarket bags tied tight and then in the black bag, cleaned out the wheellie bin with boiling water and Jeyes fluid, dont think they liked that !
Take them all out one by one and strangle the little beggars!!!
Find a neighbour who goes fishing (or send 'em to Doc....)

Seriously though, I do what you are now doing - all kitchen waste which is not compostable goes in plastic carriers, knotted, into our wheelie bin bag, and I lift the whole lot out when the binmen come. (Our wheelie is not council so for the time being, we are still bag-collecting, which the seagulls love...)
