Depends what the trousers are made of. Anything manmade is likely to be damaged by acetone, which would probably work fine on jeans. But you could try surgical spirit (rubbing alcohol).

Trouble is, some solvents also fix stains. I'd ask your dry cleaners for advice before having a go yourself and ruining the garment.
