Interring dog ashes
6 Answers
Our dearly beloved dog died last week and we have had him cremated. The vet returned his ashes in a lovely cardboard box and we would like to put the ashesin a plant pot with a rose bush.
Does anyone have any advice as to whether or not this will work or if there are any precautions to take?
I am worried that we have foxes and local cats who use our garden and also that the quantity of ash might kill the plant.
Any suggestions or advice would be welcome. Thanks.

If you were burying the dog in the garden there would be many problems - as you say foxes and cats etc.
However I wouldn't have thought that the ashes would attract them. Is it a large box? My dads ashes weighed quite a bit - we had a similar dilemma as to where to place his ashes. He resides in Loch Tay now.
My pal has her dog in an urn in the living room - some people would be uncomfortable about that. Take time to think about it, you have lost an important member of your family - it took me a while to come to terms with my last dog dying.
Best wishes - our little furry friends are forever in our hearts.

Sorry to hear of your lose. I put my dogs ashes into a very large container and planted a rose over the top. Sadly the rose didnt really do too well and the pot broke in the frost. So I have panted it in the ground. I now have beautiful roses. Which are in full bloom at the moment. Try it it should be alright. xx
Thank you all for your responses and kind wishes. I think we are a bit sentimental and think that we would like to have a reminder if we moved house.
Having read your answers we are going to plant some of the ashes in a pot and scatter some along his favourite walks.
He was a real character and for all the sadness we feel now, we wouldn't have not had him for one minute (if that makes sense!)

We made a nice little corner of our garden into a memorial garden for Jetspoon when she died. Her ashes came back from the vets in a carved wooden box which we buried quite deeply, we've put a nice standard rose, called Sweet Thoughts, on top along with a little vase for fresh flowers. It's a lovely little reminder of a precious girl. My thoughts and love are with you at this sad time xx
