How many of you wash your duvets? And how often? Not the cover, the actaul duvet itself. My OH doesn't think they should be washed at all! Also, last time I took it to the launderette it cost more to wash it than it was to buy a new one! Thanks.

I wash mine once a year. Probably should be more for hygeine reasons, but each time I squash it into the washing machine my heart's in my mouth convinced im going to break the machine. My nerves can't take more than doing it annually!

Is there only me stupid enough to wash them in their own washing machine then?
i wash my kids single duvets about 2 or 3 times a year my king size one i replace every year !!!
I've washed them in my own machine boo - it doesn't do the machines a lot of good, so I tend to only do it once a year too (that's almost a poem....)

Heh Salla ;-)

Hence the heart in my mouth each time I do helen, my nerves are frazzled by the time it's finished it cycle.
I can't get my duvet into my washing machine (King size). I get Mr LL to take it to a launderette about once a yearish (He works near a launderette and we don't have any where we live). One year a friend with a huge washing machine washed a duvet for me and it ripped. Actually, it is probably just as cheap to buy a new duvet!!

Exactly, Red Helen. I think my duvet will go to the Animal Sanctuary this year. Trouble is it clips to a thin summer one, and another one won't. Come to think of it though, I have never used them together!!

I spent a stupid amount on my duvet....can't remember how much but about the £150 mark...
My duvet isn't dumb RedHelen. It's very intelligent ;o)

I have never used the summer one. Our cottage is cool in the summer and warm in the winter, so one 10 tog duvet is fine all year round.

The two of them only cost about £10 on the market anyway. I must be nuts. I will get a new one!!

You can't wash feather ones....
what do you do with feather ones then?
They make me sneeze ummmm so can't have a feather or down one anyway!!
We only use lighweight duvets (4.5 tog) all year. so they all fit in the washer, even the king size - I wash the kids ones every couple pf weeks - it's as easy just to shove the whole thing in instead of removing the cover. Our duvet probably goes in 2 or 3 times a year - I probably buy a new one every couple of years.
new winter one every autumn summers one goes on the mattress until spring when it is replaced old winter one thrown away buy them for 5-10 quid in Birmingham rag market used to wash them though but don't live near enough to launderette any more
