Energy Saving Lamp bulbs - equivalent wattage

I need to replace the lamp bulb in my electric fire. The instructions advise mini spiral lamp 11w - and at the bottom of the page states in capitals "do not exceed 60watts". I bought a pack of bulbs today and on the box it says 14w=60w. Having searched online 14w seems to be equivalent to 75w. I have now checked the box and there is not even a manufacturer's name on it so I cannot query this with them. I am extremely dubious about using the product - are there any electricians out there who can confirm whether 14w=60w before I return the bulbs to the retailer.

I suspect the limit of 60w is where you'd be using an incandescent bulb and not one of the energy saving ones. The older type bulb will give off a lot more heat - the low energy ones are much cooler. The 11 - 14w = 60 or 75w refers to the equivalent light output, not how hot the bulb gets. (You'll probably find you can hand-hold the 11 - 14w bulb when it's lit, which you couldn't do with an incandescent 60w bulb!). I reckon you've no problem in using what you've bought.
