I have basic computer knowledge I am looking for your help please I have just got internet at home with sky and a wireless router it a new build house so hopefully I should get a good wireless signal in the house??

Any way due to lack of furniture and space a want just a laptop. It will be for mainly searching the web etc maybe some bingo. Maybe in the future some photos and movies.

I need a big screen ideally which is why I say laptop as apposed to web book or something. I need to be able to see it well as bad eye sight.

But other than that I dont know what spec to look for or whats good. There's hp, sony all sorts and I dont know what to look for. I know it is all to do with what you want to use the laptop for????? Ideally to cover me long term I would like it to be powerful enought to cope with alot to save having to get extra drives and memory very quickly, but firstly I just need it for internet. I would spend £200 - £700 and want good value for money if I dont need to spend anyway like £700 then great!!

Thanks for any help you can give me, if any references for help and recommendations could be based off the curries top offers as this store is nearest me. That would be great if they have really crap models and prices please say. I noticed a sony at around £500 but it had a battery life of 2 hours surley not...

Sorry CAS but that one is rubbish! (mainly due to only having 1GB of RAM)

Somebody I work with bought that exact same model a couple of weeks ago and it really struggles due to lack of memory, windows7 simply will not run happily in 1GB of RAM

You are correct though, there is no need to spend £700 on a laptop, decent ones are available round the £400 mark.

This is a pretty good deal for an i3 based laptop

You are correct, the Sony one here says up to 2hrs battery life which is a bit rubbish.

If you want some impartial advice, try the Consumeractive website for specs, info, prices and Best Buys. I've had an Acer Aspire for 18 months and love it.( Personally wouldn't buy anything from Currys / PC World - rotten after-sales. I'd buy from John Lewis - good prices, good advice, good after-sales and extra year warranty free and good to buy online from).

the other half like john lewis but as it 2 hours dirve and we wnated a face to face with the sales person we thought know...you get extra year with john lewis????

ermmmmm me thinks it just the intermet up and running now and im paying for it with nothing to use on it.....it will be the week end before I can face to face with someone in johnlewis and a good were miles away...but I hate pc world / curry the word pee and fire in the same sentence come to mind about them. I wouldnt buy any policy form them at all... would just risk it to be honest...

All modern laptops will be wireless and will work with your router.

Bluetooth would normally be used to transfer stuff between phones and the laptop, not essential at all (especially as you can plug pretty much any phone into the laptop using USB to do the same job)

Could you not look / decide locally and order online from JLP? Yes, definitely give you an extra year free warranty. Also will match a lower, local price ( they gave me £50 back without asking!)
