is it time to throw them away? the leaves are drying out.....still a few chillis growing..

is this what u do every year? throw them out in the winter and start again nx summer? sorry never grown chillis before

Most varieties of capsicum are grown as annuals (i.e. they're thrown out at the end of the year), even though several of them are actually short-lived perennials (so you can 'over-winter' them and get a fresh crop next year).

Try collecting some seeds to plant next year. See 'Saving Seeds' here:

If you've got the space you could also see if the plants will survive the winter but, if not, you'll still have the seeds for a free start to next year's crop.

...And, when you replant in the spring,try not to use the same area. Chillis are members of the nightshade family (same as potatoes and tomatos and many others) and if replanted in the same area they become susceptible to various fungii... Don't even plant them where this years tomatos were located... a really good plan would be to plant them where this years legumes were located... Good luck!

Strangely I only got one capsicum off one plant -still healthy yet. However the other sweet chilli plant has started to flower after just having leaves all summer so this could be interesting !!
