substitue for wine vinegar

hi, am cooking braised red cabbage today. The recipe asks for white wine vinegar which i don't have any of. What is the best think to substitue out of vinegar, balsamic vinegar or white wine? or none?

I would use the Balsamic-it would give a very rich flavour.Maybe a bit less than the recipe requires,though.

the recipe says 4 tablespoons or brown sugar and 4 tablespoons of ww vinegar (mind you this is for 750 g of cabbage, bearing in mind i can't weigh it) It's an ordinary sized cabbage - how much do you reckon that weighs?

always make it on christmas eve and add cranberries a la delia smith.
I think I once saw her adding a handful of rice to cook with the rest of ingredients. Perhaps there are variations?

This lady is 93 and she is such a good cook, and has taught me how to make lots of Polish dishes.
