cleaning velvet lined curtains

What is the best way to do these.? I mentioned this to a friend and they said they were told best way is to hang them out when it is raining and that was from someone that worked in a cleaners. I don't believe this for one minute . I don't suppose anyone else has heard of this have they ?

I know mine will go the dry cleaners.

My sister had velvet curtains and they were dry cleaned. Rain would wet them! - but they are really heavy when wet. what would you do with them then?. Strange idea!

I actually thought that dry cleaning fluid was predominantly water with some liquid cleaning fluid mixed in - or what?

Don't know but I will ask next time I go to Morrisons as they have a cleaning service there.
