ihave 4 fish tanks 3 (all new) have 1 betta in each, but one of them keeps getting algae
in it. it seems to be in threads and covering the gravel surface, the plants , and heater. why is this? could it be just because its near a window? the window is north facing and never gets any actual sunlight through it,do i need to keep the tank sides covered , or the curtain sclosed all the time, would this stop it?

It's a long time since we kept fish, but I suspect it's the light - cover the side of the tank nearest to the window, a bit of suitable Fablon used to work for us.
If you have lights in your tank do not leave them on for too long as this will help algae grow, try and stimulate daylight hours, or maybe switch them on at lunchtime and off again about an hour before you go to bed.
Sounds nasty - You can get snalis or algae eating fish - catfish type of thing.
