My husband and I bought a house wih our daughter and her husband but it resulted in constant rows and we have resorted to moving out and renting a property which we can ill afford. We are both in our late seventies and the atmosphere was makeing us feel very unwell. They agreed to put it on the market and there has been a couple of viewings but they turned down the offers as they were below the asking price. They put in 63% and we put 37%. I get the impression because they put in the most money they can call the shots and I know for sure they are reluctant to move.
Can we legally force the sale? We feel they are living there at our expence while it's costing us a lot of money each month in rent and time is not on our side. Thanks for any help.
Although it doesn't help you now, the potential for this situation is exactly why such things really have to be tied down legally before you enter into them - or indeed before you decide to move out of them.
It is most unlikely that you can force a sale, sorry to say.
