Home made decorations - ideas needed

I'm sure there are loads imaginative, crafty people on here who can help me out.

We aren't having a christmas tree this year due to lack of space but I would like a few decorations around the house. Instead of going out and buying a load I was thinking of trying to make something using the ballballs that will otherwise not get used this year. Anyone got any ideas of what I can do?

P.S. I don't mind spending a little bit of money, just not OTT.

A friend who lives in a small flat puts baubles in a cutglass bowl and around the bottom of candles. One year she painted a small apple tree branch silver, hung it on the wall with a few baubles and some tinsel - looked great.

I don't have a Christmas tree but do decorate my bannister with baubles and lights and everybody remarks on it. You could also have baubles dangling from candelabra lights or stringing baubles from one corner of the room to another...
