water filter cartridges...

i have just dug out my old water filter jug, and there is 2 cartridges with it...neither was wrapped but one wa sin a box...i am not sure if either has been used...probably have but no idea how much..both sound like theyre full of crystals

how can i tell if they have been used...?

or how can i tell if they are no longer working ?

i will buy a new one but i may as well use up these if theres life in them...
is there any way to tell?

i vaguely recall one of them being newish you see,,,

If you live in a hard water area then it's easy to test. Try filtering some water, and make some tea. If the tea looks clear then you know the filter has abit of life in them.
