scouring sponges..."technique" for use of...i cant be the only one

having a minor debate with a mate of mine who claims that to clean dishes with those yellow sponges with the green rough bit on is just scrub away with the green bit and the spong bit is just there to grip with....
i always wipe the bulk away with the sponge, then go for any tough bits with the green bit
- otherwise the green bit just gets ingrained with icky food straightaway and you cant rinse the green bit so easily, so shortens the life of the sponge
she says no-one uses them my way and that its nonsense...
now, THIS DOESNT REALLY MATTER TO EITHER OF US, AND IT DOESNT REALLY MATTER HOW YOU USE THE SPONGE AS LONG AS THE DISH IS CLEAN, so all the inevitable 'get a life' and, 'who cares' etc etc comments can be safely assumed to be pointless here.
i am just curious really, as i sort of assumed this was the point of have the 2 parts stuck together really...
so, how do you use yours? hehe

I always use them like your mate, scrubby side to the dirt.
The only time I use the sponge side is when I'm cleaning our pans which aren't dishwasher safe and have a warning in the guarantee which says that if they are washed with nylon scourers then only the sponge side must be used otherwise the guarantee will become void.
If I ever do have to claim on the guarantee I'm pretty sure they'll put them under a microscope and then decide that scourers WERE used to wriggle out of replacing them.
