What's the average sensible life of a central heating boiler?

Would a boiler need replacing after 12 years if it's been serviced regularly and is still runing without problems?

I'd agree with Zee-Zee. Bear in mind that gas boilers have traditionally outlasted oil ones.
Although modern condensing boilers are excellent, the jury's still out as to how durable they are.

mine is ancient (over 20 years) and probably not very efficient. I get it serviced every year, but British Gas won't offer me any insurance as they can't get parts for it!

Yes, if it is still working, and has been serviced then it would be fine. Mine is 11 years old, and works like new, so what is the problem then?

Quoting the Energy Saving Trust website, they give the current lifespan of a gas boiler as being ''around 12 years''.

We have had our Worcester oil fired boiler for 18 yrs, it's been serviced every year and it is still going strong.

Let's face it, they are bound to give short life dates so as to make more money from the gullible aren't they?! My combi-boiler is 16 and I still think of it as being new. Never had any problems at all with it - shouldn't have said that, should I? It will probably die tomorrow!

Touch-wood my Vaillant combi is coming up to 16 y/o, so far I have just had to have a div. valve replaced(had heat but no hot water) other than that, its still works like a dream.....

Mine's coming up to its 21st birthday and I must say I'm thinking of replacing it as a new one will work out more economically and also the last thing I want in this cold weather is for it to break down on me. Anybody heard of those pulse gas boilers?

We've just had to dump our Vaillant combi at 16 years old. The engineer who fitted the new Worcester told us you shouldn't expect more than 10 years life now and modern boilers over 15 are on borrowed time.

Mine was 32 years old when I replaced it last year. It probably was't as efficient as the modern ones but I could have replaced years earlier and wouldn't have got that money back. Hope my new combi boiler lasts as long, doubt it though.
