My palm tree is looking very sad, it looks to be rotting from the top, and the leaves are dropping off downwards, have I lost it ?,or, is there hope? it might revive itself. I didnt wrap anything around it for the winter, so thats probably why. I am sure some of you good people out there will let me know. kind regards.
I don't know, its one we bought in a pot but grew too big for it, so we planted it in the garden, just one of those common palms that you see in gardens, could it be cordeline? it was green leafed, but now it,s brown.
I live in South Yorkshire,my 12ft. high palm has also been killed off with the icy weather we had before christmas,
.I have noticed many others in the area also killed off. I doubt that it will recover so shall probably cut it down when weather warms up.
Always worth leaving until the spring is through to see what happens. Palms were relatively rare and it used to be recommended that palm branches be gathered together and wrapped in sacking to help it through the winter...................but with the onset of 'global warming' there has been a massive influx of palms and a reduction in 'good gardening practice'.
If it is a cordyline then chances are that the frost and snow will have possibly killed the top of it. However it is likely that the root is okay and if this is the case it should put up some green shoots off the sides of the main 'trunk' in Spring / Summer. You can then cut down the old main stem and leave the new 'cluster' which I think is far more attractive than a single stem plant. If it is not a cordyline then it would be helpful if you could give a detailed description of what the plant looked like.
Been a lovely day so I spent some time in the garden ,weeding etc.I also cut down my approx 12 year old 12ft.high palm, the top 2ft was completely mushy ,I'll miss it.
